It is my honor to serve as an officer of the United States Court. I embrace the court's mandate to ensure fairness and equal justice for all people and fully accept my role in the criminal justice process. I am proud to be a member of the United States Probation and Pretrial Services System and part of a long-standing tradition of dedicated service to the court and the community. I commit to serve honestly and faithfully and to uphold the following "Principles of Professional Practice."

I will serve the court by working for the fair administration of justice-whether that be by supervising persons released to the community or conducting investigations and providing information on which the court may base its decisions. I will follow accepted policy and practice, use good judgment, and make sound decisions in all tasks II undertake for the court.

I will uphold the right of the public to be safeguarded from criminal activity, I will offer persons under supervision in the community the support and services they need to achieve a law-abiding lifestyle while holding them accountable for their actions and responsible for their obligations.

I will respect the dignity and individuality of all persons who come before the court and treat them equitably and courteously. I will operate on the premise that people are able to change and that I have an important role in giving them the opportunity to change.

I will demonstrate honesty, fairness, and propriety in the way I conduct myself, as befitting an officer in a position of trust. I will ensure that how I handle information, use resources, and make decisions that affect the interests of others are unbiased, above reproach, and reflect well on the trust placed in me by the court.

I will work in harmony with colleagues in my court, in the system, and in other agencies to foster mutual respect and improve the quality of service. I will maintain a responsive and cooperative attitude that extends to everyone with whom and for whom I work.

I will carry out my duties faithfully, conscientiously, and to the best of my ability. I will seek to attain the highest possible standards of performance maintaining and enhancing my skills and expertise, by keeping up to date with the knowledge associated with my position, and by continually growing and improving.
